Knee pain and instability can lead to The ability to bend and use one’s knee is often taken for granted until said knee becomes injured. At that point, common activities such as picking something up from the ground, walking, climbing stairs, or even getting out of bed can provoke pain. It effects one’s ability to function optimally. Knee pain does not need to be debilitating. We do not need to live a life full of reduced activities and taking pain medication just to get by. In many situations, chiropractic, as well as acupuncture and dry needling, have been shown to not only reduce the pain people experience but also speed the healing process. Research estimates that nearly 25% of our population will experience knee pain as adults. We can help!
Knee Pain and Chiropractic – Mobilization to the knee joint and its associated bones releases neurochemicals into the patient’s system reducing pain and promoting blood to flow to the area. Realigning the bony structures of the knee, and restoring optimal biomechanics, movement, and alignment to the knee assists with reducing knee pain.
Acupuncture for Knee Pain – When certain acupuncture points are stimulated at the same time, endorphins enter the blood stream and have a general pain decreasing effect on the body. This approach can be used both locally and systemically in the body for pain relief. By using a technique referred to as “Surround the Dragon”, these endorphins can be focused to a more specific area like the knee to help treat more localized complaints.
Dry Needling Applications with Knee Pain – In most instances, knee injuries are affiliated with muscle conditions and trigger points. Dry needling is a technique similar to acupuncture, but focused within the trigger points instead of the acupuncture meridian system. Using a needle to release these muscle knots can potentially reduce the pain one experiences in the knee.
Soft Tissues of the Knee – Breaking up myofascial (connective tissue) adhesions is extremely important for any joint after a traumatic injury. Without this therapy, scar tissue can form leading to more pain and decreased movement of the joint. Focused and specific soft tissue exercises and therapies help to reestablish optimal muscle function to the joint.
Alone, any of these therapies could provide relief. At Synergy Chiropractic of Houston, we use a combination of these treatment methods to give our patients the best care that we can. No one wants to be in pain, and we make it our goal to get people back to their lives. Together, we work with our patients to reduce their knee pain.
