According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Although most people with COVID-19 get better within weeks of illness, some people experience post-COVID conditions. Post-COVID conditions are a wide range of new, returning, or ongoing health problems people can experience four or more weeks after first being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. Even people who did not have COVID-19 symptoms in the days or weeks after they were infected can have post-COVID conditions. These conditions can have different types and combinations of health problems for different lengths of time.” A common post-COVID symptom that we see in the office relates to muscle soreness, and joint pain.
Through the use of noninvasive, therapeutic techniques that we use at Synergy Chiropractic of Houston, many patients that experience muscle soreness and joint pain have reported relief.
Below is a transcript of the video that Dr. Reece Hayden created discussing Post-COVID Syndrome as it relates to muscle and joint pain.
Dr. Hayden here with Synergy Chiropractic of Houston. Today we are going to talking about Post-COVID Syndrome and why it can affect more than just your lungs.
Studies were done a few months after the pandemic and quarantine began. Results determined that in some cases, symptoms like muscle soreness and joint pain would occur in individuals after contracting the Covid-19 virus. These symptoms were not present in the patients prior to becoming sick. Different viruses have been shown to cause musculoskeletal issues like soreness and therefore is something we have seen before. After some individuals have contracted the Covid-19 virus and finished quarantining, they would then present with symptoms like soreness and joint pain.
Treatment for these individuals is fairly routine with soft tissue work to ensure muscles are relaxed and that blood is flowing properly. Chiropractic manipulation also helps stimulate blood circulation and relieves pressure in the joints. Additional therapies that we perform in the office that help would be dry needling, cupping, e-stim, and ultrasound therapy.
If you or someone you know might be suffering from Post-COVID Syndrome, then feel free to give our office a call. We will do our best to help relieve their discomfort. Thanks and have a nice day. Bye.
